Raytheon’s 2theXtreme: MathAlive! exhibition comes to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center

Interactive display brings math to life

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The U.S. Space & Rocket Center is set to open MathAlive!®, a highly interactive traveling exhibition that has drawn record-breaking crowds in venues around the country. Media is invited to a special VIP opening Thursday, May 24, at 10:30 a.m., followed by lunch in the Davidson Center for Space Exploration. The exhibit opens to the public Saturday, May 26.

Presented nationally by Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), MathAlive! helps children have fun with math by showing them its connection to — and influence on — many of the things they love most: music, sports, movies, games and more. Through 40 unique, interactive experiences, the exhibit takes math from its native form into the applied worlds of design, engineering, technology and science.

“We inspire visitors and Space Camp students every day with immersive, hands-on exhibits that showcase some of America’s greatest scientific innovations, and MathAlive! will enhance that experience in an exciting, interactive way,” Dr. Deborah Barnhart, CEO and Executive Director of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, said.

“Today’s young people are the innovators of tomorrow,” said Pam Erickson, Raytheon Global Brand and Corporate Citizenship vice president. “With hands-on programs such as MathAlive!, Raytheon aims to inspire the next generation of scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians who will keep our nation strong.”

MathAlive! is on a multi-year tour to science centers and museums across the U.S. and international cities, and is projected to draw millions of visitors in the process. Institutional collaborators for MathAlive! include NASA, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Society of Women Engineers and MATHCOUNTS®.

Raytheon is bringing MathAlive! to military families across the nation including those living in Huntsville and the surrounding communities. Through Raytheon’s support, all active military members and their families can attend the exhibition free.
